9 - Manufacturing and Utilities

This category includes supervisory, production and labor positions in the processing, manufacturing and utilities sectors.

These occupations are characterized by internal progression and on-the-job training. Generally speaking, workers enter these positions at the entry level and, with experience, progress to more specialized jobs. Provisions in collective agreements relating to seniority may restrict mobility between employers or industries. High-skilled occupations are increasingly technical in nature and post-secondary programs are in place for some of them.

This major group includes supervisors and central control station operators in processing and manufacturing processes, who usually require a high school diploma and several years of experience, or may require a college or post-secondary diploma, license or certificate. It contains supervisors in processing and manufacturing; supervisors in fabrication and assembly; central control station operators in processing and manufacturing processes; as well as operators and controllers of public utility equipment.

94 - Operators of machinery related to processing and manufacturing and other related personnel

This major group includes processing and manufacturing machinery operators and related occupations, which usually require a high school diploma and on-the-job experience or training. It contains machine operators in the processing and manufacture of metals and minerals and related workers; chemical, rubber and plastics processing machine operators and related workers; machine operators in the production of pulp and paper and in the transformation and manufacture of wood and related workers; machine operators in the transformation and manufacture of textile products, fabric articles, fur and leather and related workers; machine operators and related workers in food and beverage processing and related products; as well as printing equipment operators and related personnel.

95 - Assemblers in manufacturing

This major group includes assemblers in manufacturing, who usually require some high school education and specific training, and may require a high school diploma, some college education. It includes assemblers of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment, as well as all other assembly and related personnel.

96 - Laborers in processing, manufacturing and utilities

This major group includes laborers in processing, manufacturing and utilities, which may require some high school education, or a high school diploma.
